Key Features

  • AccuTrigger: Lets you adjust trigger pull weight from 2.5 to 6 pounds without a gunsmith. Why it matters: you get a crisp, consistent break that helps you shoot tighter groups in the field or at the range.
  • 22″ Sporter Barrel: Lighter than a heavy barrel, so it handles well during a day of walking and stalking. Why it matters: you won't get tired carrying it, and the 6.5 Creedmoor still delivers flat trajectories out to 600 yards.
  • Gray Synthetic Stock: Fixed, weather-resistant, and textured at the grip areas. Why it matters: it won't warp from rain or humidity, and it gives you a solid hold even in wet conditions.
  • Drilled and Tapped Receiver: Comes ready for scope base installation. Why it matters: you can mount your preferred optic right away without sending it to a machinist.
  • Detachable 4-Round Magazine: Allows for quick reloads and safe unloading. Why it matters: when you're in the blind or on a ridge, you can top off without fumbling with internal box mags.

Who It's For

This rifle is for the hunter who wants a reliable, accurate bolt gun without spending a grand. It's also a solid pick for a new shooter stepping into 6.5 Creedmoor—the mild recoil and flat trajectory make it forgiving to learn on. If you're looking for a do-it-all rifle for deer, hogs, or target shooting, this fits the bill.

Pros and Cons

  • Pros: Accurate barrel, adjustable trigger, lightweight synthetic stock, affordable price point, easy scope mounting.
  • Cons: The stock is fixed—no adjustable comb or length of pull. Some shooters may want a cheek riser for high-mounted optics.

FAQ

What scope mounts fit the Savage Axis 2?

The receiver is drilled and tapped for #6-48 screws, standard for Savage short actions. Most one-piece or two-piece bases designed for Savage Axis or Savage 110 short action will work. We carry a selection from Warne and Leupold.

Is the 6.5 Creedmoor good for deer hunting?

Yes. The 6.5 Creedmoor shoots flat and carries energy well past 300 yards. With a quality 140-grain hunting bullet, it's effective on deer, hogs, and even elk at closer ranges. Recoil is mild, so it's great for follow-up shots.

Can I change the stock on the Savage Axis 2?

Yes. The Axis 2 uses the same stock inlet as the original Axis. Aftermarket stocks from Boyd's, Oryx, and Choate are available. Keep in mind the trigger guard is part of the stock—you'll need a new bottom metal or a stock that includes it.

What is the twist rate on the 22″ barrel?

Per Savage Arms specs, the 22″ sporter barrel has a 1:8 twist rate. That stabilizes bullets from 120 to 147 grains well, including the popular 140-grain ELD-M and 143-grain ELD-X.

Does this rifle come with scope rings?

No. The rifle ships with the detachable magazine, a trigger lock, and a manual. You'll need to buy scope bases and rings separately. We have packages available at checkout.
